Depowering the Miata Steering Rack
A common mod for a Miata-based track car is to remove the power steering by depowering the stock steering rack. The process is fairly simple and should provide an even better steering feel on the track while simplifying the car even more.
First thing we did was use an engine lift to pull the steering rack apart.
Next we used a hacksaw to remove the center seal ring.
To remove the slop, we welded the loose joint in the pinion shaft.
Now we just put it all back together and mount it to the car.
