Installing an Intercooler
News flash! We have finally decided to go Turbo! After a couple years of tracking the car and getting frustrated by every car passing us on the straightaways, we felt we are ready for some more power.
One of the key components of a Turbo system is the intercooler which will cool the hot compressed air from the Turbo before it makes its way into the intake manifold. We chose the Flyin’ Miata Intercooler Kit which ought to good fit for the Exocet.
For the top mount, we took some flat aluminum strips and bent a simple Z-Bracket to hang the intercooler from the top:
For the bottom, we secure it away from the frame with a simple twisted L-Bracket made of thinner aluminum strips bolted directly to existing mount points on our radiator.
The final installation makes for a solidly mounted intercooler that fits in the right place that still allows us to use the fiberglass hood that came with the kit.
